____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the 2023 Spring Season for Soundview Little League.  Registration is open from December 1 through February 15.  Once registration is closed, league officials will spend the following weeks assigning teams and coaches, starting with the upper divisions.  We expect games for the older divisions to start mid- to late-March and the younger divisions to start games shortly after spring break.

We will share more about teams and schedules in late February and early March.  We ask for your patience during the months of February and March while the league volunteers work through the process of putting each division together.

Before you register your players, please read the information below on divisions. In addition, please be prepared to provide electronic copies of your players' birth certificates during the registration process.

If you choose to select a volunteer opportunity, you will be asked to provide a government-issued ID.

NEW FOR 2023 - The success of Soundview Little League is dependent on its volunteers. This is a nonprofit, community program, and it relies on everybody pitching in. This season, Soundview is asking all parents/guardians to volunteer 2 hours per registered player in the league. Families who do *not* volunteer must pay a $30 fee per player that will go toward operating costs.

If you are not able to volunteer, you may pay this fee during registration. If you pay the fee, then change your mind, you will have the opportunity to recoup your fees at the end of the season.

Registration Closed for Spring 2023

BASEBALL

Tee Ball (Ages 4 - 6)

The Tee Ball division is for players who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. The focus is on instruction and fun rather than competition. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Coaches are permitted on the field to teach while the game is in progress. Players hit a ball off a batting tee stand. Players have the opportunity to try all positions.

*Introduction to baseball. Team and coach requests are permitted

Baseball Minor A - Coach Pitch (Ages 6 - 8)

This is the entry division of minor league. The Single A experience is where kids are introduced to live pitched baseballs from the coach. Competition is low key. Players are rotated around all outfield and infield positions. Everyone bats regardless if playing one of the defensive positions at the time. Coaches are permitted on the field to teach while the game is in progress.

*Recommended for younger kids who played at least 1 year of T-ball or older kids new to the game. Team and coach requests are permitted.

Baseball Minor AA - Player Pitch (Ages 7-9)

This Division is for those who learned how to throw, catch and hit at the A level and are ready to pitch and hit pitching thrown from other players. The minor "AA" experience is where kids are first introduced to live player pitching. Competition level is medium. Players are assigned outfield and infield positions. Everyone bats regardless if playing one of the defensive positions at the time. Coaches / Parents from each team are required to umpire games.

*No Tryouts. Team and coach requests are allowed. Teams are formed by the league after AAA tryouts.

Baseball Minor AAA

All players 10 to 12 years old must register for either the AAA or Major divisions. Also, any 9 year-olds who would like to tryout are welcome to register for the AAA division. Players drafted in AAA MUST play for the team that drafted them. 10 year-olds can also register in Majors if they want to try out. 12-year-olds can play AAA only with an approved waiver. (contact the player agent for a waiver in this case).

This is the division where kids are introduced to higher competition and officiating by veteran umpires following the strict rules and regulations of Little League Baseball. Skill levels vary widely among athletes and managers may position players according to their “best fit.” Everyone bats each inning regardless if playing one of the defensive positions at the time.

*Tryouts / Draft. Team and coach requests not allowed. See below for more details.

Majors (Ages 10 - 12)

ALL 11 and 12 year-olds register for Majors plus any 10 year-olds who want to tryout. Players drafted in this division MUST play for the team that drafted them.

The major division is where athletes are a bit bigger and stronger and the level of competition increases. Athletes throw and hit the baseball much harder than in the minor “AAA” division. Positions are assigned by the coaching staff and based on a player’s ability to demonstrate the skill necessary for the position played. Games are managed for team development first then individual skill development. This level of play is considered competitive.

*Tryouts / Draft. Team and coach requests not allowed. See below for more details.

Gear

Although our league supplies each team manager with a few standby bats, helmets, and catchers gear, many players purchase their own helmets and bats (and several have their own catchers gear in upper divisions). Before you purchase, make sure you read about the required the Little League Rules for bats and helmet modifications. Little League International has put a moratorium on composite bats. More information is provided by your team manager at the beginning of the season.

Little League International Rules

All Players: You will be allowed to register your player in a division according to their birth date. In accordance with Little League International standards, we require proof of residence and will verify all birth dates. The following will be electronically signed during registration: proof of residence, medical waiver form, concussion consent form, and refund policy. Returning players will not be required to provide physical documents for the regular season. However all players selected to an All Star team will be required to provide physical proof of residency documents and an original certified birth certificate.

New Players: You will be required to show a certified birth certificate before your player will be assigned or drafted to a team. A photocopy of a birth certificate is not acceptable. Birth certificates can be ordered from www.vitalchek.com. They usually take 3-5 days to arrive but can take up to 18 business days. New players attending player evaluations must have their birth certificates verified before tryouts. Those who have not shown their birth certificate will not be drafted.

12 Year-old Waiver Rule: Please note that all players league age 12 must be drafted onto a Majors or Junior League team. Parents of 12 year-olds wishing their players to play down in Minors Softball or Baseball must fill out a waiver form and submit it to their Player Agent prior to player evaluations. The waiver request must then be approved by the Board and the District Administrator.
